Film adaptations of Jane Austen´s novels

Jane Austen's writings have long held a fascination with the viewing public since the advent of motion pictures, be it through movie or in television form. Since the beginning, screenplay writers, directors and actors have tried to capture the spirit and essence of each Jane Austen work.

Others have tried and successfully achieved stories by loosely basing their plots on Austen's own work.

This web site for students at secondary school aims at introducing Austen´s work through some of the most popular adaptations along with the abridged versions of her novels. We hope to encourage students to read and critically compare Jane Austen´s work to the film versions.
